Are these the best British classic rock songs?

Last month, Absolute Classic Rock radio station asked its listeners to vote for their favourite British classic rock songs of all time. The results are now in and there aren’t too many surprises in the top ten choices, as you can see below. Add a comment if you think the listeners got it wrong.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway To Heaven

The Who – Won’t Get Fooled Again

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody

Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love

Deep Purple – Smoke On The Water

The Who – Baba O’Reilly

Led Zeppelin – Rock and Roll

Free – All Right Now

The Beatles – Revolution

The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter

Some true classics in there, but maybe one each from Led Zeppelin and The Who would have been enough, leaving room for bands such The Kinks and Cream.

As much as I enjoy Queen and respect the complexity and brilliance of Bohemian Rhapsody, that song seems to always get the top spot in UK polls, so it was nice to see a different song at the top – even though it was also a fairly predicable choice.

Absolute Classic Rock is a radio station made by the team at One Golden Square in London, who also bring you Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s and dabbl.co.uk
