Ronnie Spector pays tribute to Amy Winehouse

Ronnie Spector has told Rolling Stone of her devastation at hearing of the death of Amy Winehouse.

Ronnie, who overcame her own problem with addiction in the 1990s, said:

She had such a great soul in her voice and her lyrics were so amazing that I couldn’t help but sing one of her songs. I was so happy to see an artist like Amy, because she reminded me of my youth.

Amy Winehouse dies aged 27

Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse was found dead today at her home in London, aged just 27. The cause of death is at present “unexplained”, but her history of problems with drink and drugs are well known.

The Ronettes are my favourite girl group of the 60s, primarily because Ronnie Spector was such a charismatic and talented performer – and of course because of Phil Spector’s brilliant studio production.
