Phil Lynott 25th anniversary Phil Lynott died 25 years ago today.

The Thin Lizzy frontman collapsed on Christmas night 1985 at his home in Kew. He was suffering from kidney and liver infection and died of heart failure and pneumonia on January 4, 1986 aged just 36.

This footage of Thin Lizzy’s breakthrough hit “Whiskey in the Jar” highlights what a tragic waste of talent his untimely death was.

A Phil Lynott exhibition will be held at St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre in Dublin. The exhibition, which is curated by Hot Press magazine, will feature guitars, personal letters, cards, school reports, lyric books and other items of memorabilia.

Commenting on the forthcoming exhibition, Lynott’s mother, Philomena Lynott, said:

“There is a huge feeling of goodwill out there towards Philip and so I think this is going to be an inspiring event for all of the Irish people who loved my son and his music. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The 25th anniversary of Phil Lynott’s death is being commemorated tonight at the annual Vibe for Philo in Vicar Street, Dublin. The event is sold out.
