The 40th anniversary of Derek and the Dominos’ classic album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” will be marked by a remastered release in three editions.

No tracklists have been confirmed, but Clapton’s fan club website, Where’s Eric, speculates that there will be a single disc remastered edition, a two-disc deluxe edition and a super deluxe edition with four CDs, one DVD and two LPs.

“Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” was recorded at the Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida during the summer of 1970 and released as a double album in the November of that year. It reached number 17 on Billboard’s Pop Albums chart. This was the only studio album recorded by the band, which broke up in 1971 due in part to Clapton’s battle with depression and drug addiction. However, the band did go on tour after the recording of “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” and a live double album, “In Concert”, was put together from two performances at the Fillmore East in New York.

Here’s the legendary title track from “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs”:

Eric Clapton’s latest album of blues and jazz standards, imaginatively titled “Clapton”, was released in September and hit the top 10 in both the US and the UK.

Finally, next week will see the release of Clapton’s “Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010” on DVD and Blu-ray. The event took place in June at Toyota Park, Chicago, and featured some of the world’s greatest guitarists, including Albert Lee, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, James Burton, BB King and Clapton himself.
