Kate Moss on cover of Bryan Ferry’s “Olympia”

Bryan Ferry - Olympia Kate Moss will grace the cover of Bryan Ferry’s new album, “Olympia,” which is due for release on October 26.

The use of Moss is a nod to the Roxy Music days, where models such as Amanda Lear and Marilyn Cole appeared on the band’s album covers (“For Your Pleasure” and “Stranded”, respectively.)

Ferry seems delighted to be featuring Moss on the cover of “Olympia”, referring to the model, perhaps a little optimistically, as “the most glamorous female icon since Marilyn Monroe.”

“Olympia” is Ferry’s first album of new material in eight years. It features Roxy Music bandmates Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay, which is the first time he has recorded with the three together since 1973. Among the musicians guesting on the album are Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, Primal Scream bassist Mani, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea.

The album features two cover songs (Tim Buckley’s “Song To the Siren” and Traffic’s “No Face, No Name, No Number”) and eight originals. The full track list is:

  • You Can Dance
  • Alphaville
  • Heartache By Numbers
  • Me Oh My
  • Shameless
  • Song To The Siren
  • No Face, No Name, No Number
  • BF Bass (Ode To Olympia)
  • Reason Or Rhyme
  • Tender Is The Night.

The first single from “Olympia” is “You Can Dance”, which was released last month. Here’s the promo video:

As is so often the case these days, there is also a CD/DVD deluxe version with bonus tracks. The three bonus tracks are cover versions of John Lennon’s “Whatever Gets You Through The Night”, Elvis Presley’s “One Night” and Phyllis Nelson’s “Move Closer.” The bonus tracks were all recorded in the 1990s.

For those with deep pockets, there is an “Olympia” box set, which comes complete with a 40-page hardback book, a 13-track CD, a remix CD and a DVD which includes track by track interviews with Ferry and behind the scenes footage.
