Happy 70th Birthday Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr Ringo Starr celebrates his 70th birthday today in New York City.

Ringo will attend a private event in the morning at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, before taking to the stage at the Radio City Music Hall with his All-Starr Band in the evening.

When asked recently by the New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff how he felt about his 70th birthday, Ringo said:

“As far as I’m concerned, in my head, I’m 24. That’s just how it is. The number, yeah, it’s high. But I just felt I’ve got to celebrate it. I’m on my feet and I’m doing what I love to do, and I’m in a profession, as a musician, where we can go on for as long as we can go on. I’m not hiding from it, you know.”

Tonight’s gig at Radio City Music Hall is part of Ringo’s 11th All Starr Band tour, which kicked off on June 24. The band features Edgar Winter, Gary Wright, Richard Page, Wally Palmar, Rick Derringer and Gregg Bissonette. After tonight, the All-Starr Band will play the following shows:

Ringo will be playing songs from his fifteenth solo album, Y Not, which was released in February. “Y Not” features collaborations with Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Joss Stone, Van Dyke Parks, Ben Harper and Richard Marx.
