Carly Simon 65th birthday After some minor success in the 1960s with The Simon Sisters, alongside her sister Lucy, Carly’s career really took off in the 1970s as a solo artist with the release of her debut album “Carly Simon.” This was followed by the album “Anticipation” which hit the top 30.

Of course Carly Simon’s biggest hit was “You’re So Vain” in 1973, which hit number one. The single also helped push her album “No Secrets” to the top of the album charts.

Carly Simon has never revealed who “You’re So Vain” was written about, although there have been hints over the years. Warren Beatty and Mick Jagger are often cited as likely candidates, and record producer David Geffen has recently been added to the list of possibilities thanks to “David” being whispered backwards on Simon’s remake of the song.

The other song most associated with Simon is “Nobody Does It Better” which was the theme song for the James Bond movie “The Spy Who Loved Me” and became a worlwide smash in 1977.

Simon continued to contribute music for film and television throughout the 1980s, culminating in an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award in 1989 for “Let the River Run,” which was the theme to the movie “Working Girl.”

In the last two decades, Simon has released albums of standards, continued to contribute songs to films, recorded a contemporary opera called “Romulus Hunt,” and released three albums of original songs, including “This Kind of Love” in 2008. Her latest album, “Never Been Gone,” was released last year and features reworkings of some of her classic songs.

Happy Birthday Carly Simon.
