Diamond, Springsteen and Waters receive Billboard Touring Awards

Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters were among the winners at the annual Billboard Touring Awards, which took place last night at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.

Neil Diamond received Billboard’s highest accolade, the Legend of Live Award, which recognises those who have made “significant and lasting contributions to live music and the touring business.” Rush, Journey, Sir Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, and the Allman Brothers Band are among the previous recipients. On hearing of the award last month, Diamond said:

“There is no musical expression that quite compares with that of presenting your work to a live audience. It is the kind of experience that can both exhilarate and humble you at the same time. I’m honored to receive Billboard’s Legend of Live Award, and to have had the opportunity to perform live to audiences all over the world for the past 45 years. For me, there is no higher musical calling.”

Waters’ “The Wall Live” received the Top Tour Award for the top grossing tour, and Springsteen’s “Wrecking Ball Tour” picked up the Top Draw Award for the top ticket selling tour.

Cirque du Soleil won the Creative Content Award for “Michael Jackson Immortal”.

The Humanitarian Award was presented to Harlem’s Apollo Theater, rather than an individual.
