Coldplay, U2 and Prince to headline Glastonbury?

U2, Coldplay and Prince Glastonbury headliners Coldplay have been confirmed as the Saturday night headliners for this year’s Glastonbury and U2 are likely to top the bill on the Friday after pulling out last year due to Bono’s back injury. This leaves the prestigious Sunday night closing slot and there is a persistent rumour that it might be filled by Prince.

It was suggested in the British media last October that Prince had already been signed up for the festival, but this has not been confirmed by the organisers.

Coldplay headlined Glastonbury in 2002 and 2005, but both Prince and U2 would be making their Glastonbury debuts if signed up.

Fans of the Rolling Stones will be disappointed by The Sun newspapers’ report that the band has turned down an offer to play the festival. Rumours of a 50th anniversary tour this year have also been denied.

The BBC and Glastonbury picked up the award for Best Music Programme at the Broadcast Awards on Wednesday night for their coverage of last year’s festival.

Glastonbury 2011 takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton from June 24-26. It is already sold out.
