Classic Rock Awards – the winners

Rush, The Rolling Stones and AC/DC were among the winners at the sixth annual Classic Rock Awards, which took place at London’s Roundhouse last night.

The Classic Rock Awards are voted on by the readers and editorial team of Classic Rock Magazine.

Canadian rockers Rush won the Living Legend award, which is the first time that a band has won this award. Previous recipients include Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne.

AC/DC received the Band of the Year award in recognition of a great year, which included a number one UK album, “AC/DC: Iron Man 2“, and a headline appearance at the Donnington Download Festival.

The Rolling Stones received the Reissue of The Year award for the remastered edition of “Exile On Main Street.” The award was collected by Ronnie Wood.

The other award winners were:

  • Event Of The Year – Journey’s 1981 single “Don’t Stop Believin'” going back into the UK Top 10. This was prompted by the song’s appearance in both Glee and The X-Factor
  • Best New Band – The Union
  • Film Of The Year – Dr Feelgood ‘rockumentary’ “Oil City Confidential”
  • Outstanding Contribution – John Paul Jones
  • Metal Guru – Geezer Butler
  • Spirit Of Prog – Rick Wakeman
  • Breakthrough Act – Imelda May
  • Childline Rocks award – Glenn Hughes
  • Innovator award – Killing Joke
  • Classic Songwriter – Roy Wood
  • Classic Album Award – Cheap Trick for “Cheap Trick At Budokan
  • Marshall ’11’ award – Michael Schenker, founding member of The Scorpions and later the lead guitar player for UFO
  • Tommy Vance Inspiration award – the late Ronnie James Dio
  • VIP Award – K2 Agent John Jackson.
