Beach Boys lip-syncing controversy

Beach Boys frontman Mike Love has denied that the band were lip-syncing at a concert in Australia on Saturday night.
Some fans who watched the show at the Gold Coast 600 concert in Queensland have accused the band of lip-syncing their set. |
One fan told Sky News:
| “The Beach Boys were a fraud. They were miming everything. You could tell they weren’t even singing; he (Love) was barely even moving.” |
Mike Love has hit back at the lip-syncing accusation, saying:
| “Throughout the duration of my stay in Australia, I heard nothing but positive feedback on our show. … We pride ourselves on providing a great live show to our millions of fans around the world and spent time that day soundchecking our vocals to ensure a great live mix. In our almost 50 years of performing, the Beach Boys have never lip-synced, and we are not about to start.” |
Love’s denial was backed up by a statement from the event’s management team of the Armor All Gold Coast 600:
| “Suggestions that The Beach Boys were lip-syncing are false. A slight delay between the vision being played on the big screens at the 600 Sounds presented by Hard Rock precinct and what was happening on stage did occur, as sometimes happens with live performances, and this may have contributed to the confusion felt by some event-goers.” |
So for those of you who are planning to catch the Beach Boys in concert, the good news is that it seems they can’t be added to the list of artists who do cheat fans by lip-syncing on stage.
The Beach Boys will perform several shows back in the US in November, before a number of dates in South Africa in December.

Mike Love and Bruce Johnston are not the Beach Boys. They really should stop billing themselves as such. Who cares if they are lip syncing or not. And for him to say that the Beach Boys have “never” lip synced is absurd.
