Adam Ant has announced his first tour for 15 years.

The 56-year-old singer achieved huge success with his band Adam and the Ants in the early 1980s, and will now be touring with a seven-piece act called The Good, The Mad and The Lovely Posse.

Ant told Sky News:

“It’s great to be back on tour. I never planned to be away for 15 years. It sounds like a long time but I’d been doing it solidly since the 70s till 1995 and I had 11 days off (in all that time). Fifteen years is a long time to wait. I don’t know who my audience is but hopefully anyone with eyes and ears will enjoy it.”

Adam Ant and The Good, The Mad and The Lovely Posse tour dates:

  • 16 May – Brighton, Concorde2
  • 17 May – Cambridge, The Junction
  • 18 May – Portsmouth, Wedgewood Rooms
  • 23 May – Glasgow, O2 ABC
  • 24 May – Sheffield, O2 Academy
  • 26 May – London, Indigo O2
  • 28 May – Liverpool, O2 Academy
  • 29 May – Newcastle, O2 Academy

There is also an 18-track album of new material on the way from Ant titled “Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter.” This will be his first album of new material since “Wonderful” in 1995. Ant has said that the “Blueblack Hussar” is his classic Kings of the Wild Frontier-era persona, back from the dead.

Ant discussed his career highs and lows, and well publicised mental health problems with John Humphrys on BBC Radio 4’s “On The Ropes” programme today. Those in the UK can listen to the interview here.

For those who don’t want to wait until May to see Adam Ant, he will be headlining a night of live music, comedy and karaoke at the Relentless Garage in Highbury on Saturday April 2 in aid of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The “We Love Japan” event will be hosted by Iain Lee of Absolute Radio and will also feature many promising London-based Japanese musicians. Click here for further information.
