The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has revealed that the recipients of the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors will be Buddy Guy, Led Zeppelin, David Letterman, Dustin Hoffman and ballerina Natalia Makarova.

Kennedy Center Chairman, David M. Rubenstein, said “Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant transformed the sound of rock & roll with their lyricism and innovative song structures, infusing blues into the sound of rock & roll and laying the foundation for countless rock bands.”

Buddy Guy was described by Rubenstein as “…a titan of the blues” and “a tremendous influence on virtually everyone who has picked up an electric guitar in the last half century.”

The Kennedy Center Honors will be presented on December 1, with a gala dinner the following night that will air on CBS on December 26.

Paul McCartney, Merle Haggard, Bruce Springsteen, and Dave Brubeck are among the other music stars to receive Kennedy Center Honors in recent years.
