Paul McCartney has postponed the first seven shows of his US tour as he is still recovering from a virus that led to the postponement of shows in Japan and Korea last month.

McCartney said in a statement:

I’m sorry, but it’s going to be a few more weeks before we get rocking in America again. I’m feeling great, but taking my docs’ advice to take it easy for just a few more days. Look forward to seeing you all soon.

The tour had been scheduled to begin on June 14 at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas, but will now open on July 5 in Albany, NY. McCartney’s return to San Francisco’s Candlestick Park on August 14 (the site of the final Beatles show in the US) was going to be the tour closer, but he will now take a break after that show and return to play the postponed dates in October.

The dates for the “Out There” US tour are as follows:

• 5 August – Washington-Grizzly Stadium, Missoula, MT
• 7 August – EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, UT
• 10 August – Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA
• 12 August – US Airways Center, Phoenix, AZ
• 14 August – Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA
• 2 October 2 – United Spirit Arena, Lubbock, TX
