Guitar legend Eric Clapton celebrates his 65th birthday today.

Eric Clapton is widely regarded as one of the most influential and important guitarists of all time. He has produced outstanding work throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos.

He is also the only person to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times – for his solo work and for his work with Cream and the Yardbirds.

Eric Clapton's 65th birthday

Clapton has experimented with various genres, including reggae, psychedelic rock and pop, but blues is what he is most driven by. He has cited a number of artists as influences, including B.B. King, Albert King and Buddy Guy, but Robert Johnson is the man who most inspired him. With Clapton having such a natural affinity for the blues, it’s no suprise that his most successful albums have been blues-based – “Unplugged” in 1992 and “From the Cradle” in 1994 were both US number ones and were Diamond (10x platinum) and 3x platinum sellers, respectively.

There’s no better way to celebrate Eric Clapton’s birthday than with some career highlights, so here goes…

Cream – Sunshine of Your Love

Derek and the Dominos – Layla

Eric Clapton – Cocaine (Live)

Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry & Keith Richards – In The Wee Wee Hours

Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven

Eric Clapton – Driftin’ Blues

Happy Birthday ‘Slowhand.’ 🙂
