The acetate of Elvis Presley’s first recording, “My Happiness,” has sold for $240,000 at an auction held at Graceland in Memphis.

The acetate was the star lot in the auction, which was held to celebrate what would have been Elvis’ 80th birthday.

Millie Kirkham, backing singer for Elvis, dies aged 91

Millie Kirkham, who featured as a backing singer on many classic recordings by artists such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Jim Reeves, has died aged 91. The singer suffered a stroke last week and had been in intensive care for days before passing away on Sunday (Dec 14th) at a hospital in Nashville.

Elvis photographer, Alfred Wertheimer, dies

Alfred Wertheimer, the photographer responsible for some of the most memorable images ever taken of the young Elvis Presley, has died of natural causes at his New York apartment.

Wertheimer was born in Germany in 1929 and emigrated to Brooklyn as a young boy. He graduated Cooper Union in 1951 and, after serving as an Army Signal Corp photographer, began working as a freelance photographer in the early 1950s.
