Willie Nelson’s “Band of Brothers” has become the singer’s highest charting album in the US since “Always On Mind” in 1982. The singer’s first collection of newly penned songs since 1996’s “Spirit” album entered the Billboard 200 at #5 and also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Chart.

“Band of Brothers” is Nelson’s second Top 10 album in less than a year, following “To All The Girls,” which peaked at #9 in October 2013. The 14 tracks on “Band of Brothers” are all new recordings, nine of which are brand new compositions by the country legend and his producer Buddy Cannon.

The album has received widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone saying:

A minute into Willie Nelson’s new set of songs – largely self-penned for a change – it’s clear the man who wrote Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’ 50-some years ago has lost neither verve nor cojones.

The Associated Press were similarly enthusiastic, noting:

Nelson the songwriter returns in all his wonderful guises… each song is a perfect projection of its writer’s best qualities. They’re comfortable, familiar, well-worn, but also new and different.

Nelson recently spoke to NPR’s Arun Rath about “Band of Brothers”.
