“The Stones in the Park” coming to Blu-ray

The Stones in the Park Blu-ray A Blu-ray edition of Leslie Woodhead’s award-winning documentary “The Stones in the Park” will be released on June 18 in the UK.

“The Stones in the Park” features the Rolling Stones’ free concert in London’s Hyde Park, which took place on July 5, 1969 and attracted an estimated 250,000 fans.

The concert features great performances of some of the band’s biggest hits, including “Satisfaction,” “Jumping Jack Flash,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” and “Honky Tonk Women” – the latter making its live debut.

The sad death of former band member, Brian Jones, just two days before the show, is marked by Jagger’s recitation of an excerpt from Shelley’s Adonais, and the release of thousands of butterflies.

“Stones in the Park” won the Best News Documentary award at the 1969 Rank News Film Awards.

The producers of this Blu-ray title promise that the documentary has been “lovingly restored in High Definition and has had its soundtrack remixed in Dolby 5.1”, so hopefully it will be a significant step up from the existing DVD release.

The “Stones in the Park” Blu-ray will include the following special features:

  • three previously unseen songs from the show – “Mercy, Mercy,” “Stray Cat Blues” and “No Expectations” (the latter two are not complete)
  • World in Action – a July 1967 discussion with Mick Jagger on his arrest for drugs possession
  • a 1967 Mick Jagger press conference on his release from prison
  • 1964 news footage of the Rolling Stones
  • 1971 interviews with Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts about their tour of France.

The songs are in high definition, but the remainder of the special features are in standard definition.
