Vintage Paul McCartney letter sells for £34,850

A letter from Paul McCartney to an unknown drummer has sold at auction for £34,850 ($55,865).

The letter, dated 12 August, 1960, was written by McCartney in response to a notice placed by the drummer in the Liverpool Echo. McCartney was inviting the drummer to audition for the then unknown Beatles, noting that he must be available for a trip to Hamburg, expenses paid £18 per week (approx.), for 2 months.

British Pathé – A rock ‘n’ roll treasure trove

British Pathé broadcast thousands of cinema newsreels from 1910 until the 1970s, covering everything from major historical events to simple human interest stories. Not surprisingly, Pathé often turned its attention to the popular music stars of the day and as a result its archive is a real treasure trove for those interested in the great rock and pop legends, albeit with a British bias.

Backbeat stage show coming to London’s West End

A stage adaptation of the 1994 movie “Backbeat” is coming to London’s Duke of York’s Theatre next month.

“Backbeat” tells the story of The Beatles’ early years, with a focus on the raw rock ‘n’ roll of their time gigging in Hamburg, Germany.
