We are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the day that Elvis Presley recorded “That’s All Right” and kick-started one of the most remarkable careers in music history.

Elvis’ timeless reworking of the Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup blues song was recorded during a try out at Sam Phillips’ Sun Studio in Memphis, TN on July 5, 1954.

The radio special celebrates the 60th anniversary of “That’s All Right,” the first professional recording of Elvis Presley’s career and one of the most important songs in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.

Elvis Presley: A Boy From Tupelo – tracklist

The tracklist for the highly-anticipated “Elvis Presley: A Boy From Tupelo” box set has now leaked, and looks very promising, including a total of 20 unreleased performances.

The project covers Elvis’ early career on the Sun Records label through a meticulously researched 512-page book and three CDs that include all available Sun recordings and an impressive collection of live performances from the period. The recent “I Forgot To Remember To Forget” discovery will not be on the set.

Elvis Presley: A Boy From Tupelo – The Complete 1953-1955 Recordings

The long-awaited book/CD project on Elvis Presley’s time at Sun Records is due for release in August. “A Boy From Tupelo – The Complete 1953-1955 Recordings” will comprise three CDs and a 512-page book.

The title will be released on the FTD collector’s label.

Jerry Lee Lewis profile

Today is Jerry Lee Lewis’ 74th birthday. The rock ‘n’ roll pioneer was born September 29, 1935 in Ferriday, Louisiana.

Like many of the great early rockers, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis. He had already been turned down by both the Grand Ole Opry and the Louisiana Hayride when he arrived at Sun Studios in November 1956. After an impressive audition, he began recording for the label both as a session musician and solo artist. In late 1956/early 1957, Lewis played piano on tracks such as Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox”, “Your True Love”, “You Can Do No Wrong”, and “Put Your Cat Clothes On”, and Billy Lee Riley’s “Flyin’ Saucers Rock’n’Roll.
