Queen: Live at Wembley Stadium – The 25th Anniversary Edition

Written by admin on August 4, 2011 – 6:20 pm -

Queen’s two Wembley Stadium shows from July 1986 will be released in full on DVD for the first time on September 5.

The release celebrates the 25th anniversary of the legendary shows and also coincides with what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday.

“Queen: Live at Wembley Stadium – The 25th Anniversary Edition” will feature both the July 11 and 12 concerts in their entirety, with brilliant renditions of some of the band’s best loved songs, including “We Are The Champions,” “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites the Dust.” A behind the scenes feature is also included, along with new interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor.

This set upgrades the 2003 DVD set which featured only the second night in full. The footage has also been restored for the Anniversary edition and the sound remastered with a brand new stereo mix and 5.1 sound.

Brian May said:

“The Wembley concerts in 1986 were the pinnacle for us. We were at our height band-wise, and Freddie had developed this phenomenal way of dealing with stadium audiences. Being back home in London playing two sell-out nights was such a big, big occasion for us. None of us realized that this would be almost the last time we played together.”

Queen only ever played two further UK concerts, in Manchester on July 16 and at Knebworth on August 9.

Queen: Live at Wembley Stadium will be released on September 5, which would have been Mercury’s 65th birthday. It will be available as a standard 2DVD set or a deluxe 2DVD/2CD set.

Queen reissues

Queen’s reissue campaign also continues on September 5 with standard and deluxe reissues of the band’s last five albums:

“The Works” (1984)

“A Kind Of Magic” (1986)

“The Miracle” (1989)

“Innuendo” (1991)

“Made In Heaven” (1995).

This was Queen’s most commercially successful period, with each album going platinum in the UK. The reissues will be accompanied by the third “Deep Cuts” compilation.
