Pete Seeger – 1919-2014

American folk singer-songwriter and political activist Pete Seeger sadly passed away on Monday (January 27) at New York–Presbyterian Hospital. He was 94.

Seeger wrote/co-wrote some of the most significant folk songs of all time, including “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”, “Turn, Turn, Turn!”, and “If I Had a Hammer”.

Pete Seeger covers Dylan’s “Forever Young” for Amnesty International

Today sees the release of Pete Seeger’s cover of the Bob Dylan song “Forever Young” on digital single and music video. The song, which benefits Amnesty International, comes out on the 50th anniversary of the release of Bob Dylan’s self-titled debut album.

UK votes on best ever political songs

The UK’s New Statesmen magazine has published a list of the top 20 political songs, as voted for by their readers and members of the Political Studies Association.

Not surprisingly, the list contains some of the most famous protest songs of all time, including John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Bob Dylan’s “The Times They are a-Changin'” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land,” which takes the top spot.
