The Animals’ biggest hit “The House of the Rising Sun” is Song of the Week on Classic Pop Icons.

“The House of the Rising Sun” was released on single in the UK in June 1964, backed with “Talkin’ ’bout You,” and debuted two months later in the US. It was also on the band’s self-titled American debut album, but not on the UK version.

Happy 70th Birthday Joan Baez

Happy Birthday to folk legend Joan Baez who is 70 today.

Joan was born in Staten Island, New York on January 9, 1941 and began her music career as a teenager performing in the coffee houses in the Boston-Cambridge area of Massachusetts.

The 2011 Grammy Hall of Fame inductees

The Beatles, Fats Domino, Otis Redding and Joan Baez are among the artists whose recordings will be entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011.

The Grammy Hall of Fame Award was established by The Recording Academy’s National Trustees in 1973. The aim was to “honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old.” To date, 881 recordings have been inducted.
