New Elvis exhibits in 2012

Elvis Presley Enterprises has announced that three new exhibits will be opening at Graceland in 2012 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ death.

The three new exhibits are:

Elvis on Tour Exhibit

Next year is the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ Golden Globe winning documentary “Elvis On Tour” which followed Elvis on and off stage during a multi-city tour. The exhibit, located at Graceland Crossing, will include artifacts from the movie, including Elvis’ stage clothing and rarely seen photos and video.

Most fans will also be hoping for a special edition “Elvis On Tour” Blu-ray/DVD release to mark the anniversary.

Elvis…Through His Daughter’s Eyes

This exhibit will explore Elvis’ relationship with his daughter Lisa Marie through family photos and home movies, and other artifacts relating to Lisa’s childhood.

The exhibit will form part of the VIP Tour and will open on February 1, which is Lisa Marie’s birthday.

ICON: The Influence of Elvis Presley Exhibit

This exhibit celebrates Elvis’ position as a music icon with artifacts borrowed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the collections of leading musicians, such as Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Bono, James Brown, and many more.

The exhibit opens on March 1 at Sincerely Elvis.

Paul Simon to release 25th anniversary “Graceland” box set

Paul Simon has told Billboard that he is planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his “Graceland” album with a deluxe box set and a tour that will reunite him with some of the artists he played with on the original Graceland tour in 1987.

“Graceland” was released in August 1986 and won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Simon already reunited with the Ladysmith Black Mambazo vocal group for an intimate concert in South Africa earlier this year. Footage of this performance will be included in the Graceland box set as part of a documentary directed by Joe Berlinger. Commenting on the film, Simon said:

“The documentary took me back to the artistic aspects and the political aspects of making Graceland and the controversy that surrounded it and how it was resolved, plus what remains of it and what we learn from it.”

There’s no firm date for the release of the “Graceland” box set, but remastered, single disc editions of “Graceland,” “Hearts and Bones” and “The Rhythm of the Saints” will be released by Sony Legacy on October 24. They can be pre-ordered now from:

New exhibits at Graceland

Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion will open three major new exhibits on March 6th, 2009 that chronicle key periods in Elvis’ life and his impact on popular culture.

The opening of these three exhibits, Elvis in Hollywood, Elvis Lives: the King and Pop Culture and the addition of never before seen vehicles owned by Elvis in the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum, is the largest opening of exhibits and display of artifacts to the public since Graceland opened for public tours in 1982.
