New album from Eric Clapton in September

The long wait for new material from Eric Clapton is almost over. His 19th studio album, simply titled “Clapton,” will be released on September 28.

Clapton’s first album since 2005′s “Back Home” will feature collaborations with Sheryl Crow, Steve Winwood, Wynton Marsalis, Allen Toussaint and Derek Trucks.

Who memorabilia headlines rock and pop auction

A Gibson SG guitar played by Pete Townshend on a 1971 tour with The Who was the highest price item at Christie’s Rock and Pop Memorabilia auction, held in South Kensington, London, last night. Townsend’s guitar sold for £49,250, which was double the estimate.

Song of the Week #5 – “That’s All Right”

Elvis Presley’s very first single, “That’s All Right,” is this week’s song of the week.

This is one of the most important songs ever recorded. Nineteen-year-old Elvis Presley, with sidemen Scotty Moore (guitar) and Bill Black (bass), were on a break during a studio session when they began improvising on an old blues song by Arthur Crudup. Producer Sam Phillips was amazed by what he heard and asked them to back up and try it again. The result was a new and unique sound which became known as rockabilly.
