Rolling Stones and Bowie up for NME Awards

The Rolling Stones and David Bowie have both received multiple nominations for this year’s NME Awards.

The Rolling Stones have been nominated in four categories: Best Live Band, Best Music Film (for Crossfire Hurricane), Best Book (for The Rolling Stones: 50), and Music Moment of the Year (for their 50 & Counting performances at London’s O2 Arena). Neil Young’s “Waging Heavy Peace” is among the other books nominated in the Best Book category.

Mick Jagger has welcomed the nominations:

“It’s very nice to be nominated. When I first heard it was four things, I thought, ‘Ooh, blimey! That’s very nice!'” And it’s not a journalists-only thing, it’s not a coterie of closely-knit people choosing. It’s funny, because when we were rehearsing at Wembley Arena last year, it was where we used to do the NME Pollwinners. We remembered, it was the first time we ever played ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, at one of those Pollwinners concerts!”

Tame Impala and Haim are the only other acts to achieve four nominations, but David Bowie is close behind with three. He has been nominated in the following categories: Music Moment of the Year (for his return to making music), Best Music Video (for “Where Are We Now?”), and Hero of the Year.

Paul Weller is nominated in the Best Solo Act category, facing competition from Jake Bugg, Noel Gallagher, Florence Welch, Miles Kane and Grime.

The NME Awards take place on Wednesday, February 27 at London’s Troxy.

A full list of the nominees in the 22 categories is available on the NME website.
