The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced that its 2014 inductees will be: Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. The E Street Band will receive the Award for Musical Excellence.
The two recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers will be Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham.
The inductees were voted on by a panel of 600 artists, historians and music industry insiders, as well as an online fans’ ballot.
Other acts who were on the ballot but did not make it through were Chic, Deep Purple, The Replacements, LL Cool J, Link Wray, The Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Zombies, N.W.A., and Yes. Chic have now been nominated nine times without being inducted.
Artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 10, 2014. HBO will air the show in May.
