Queen have signed a deal with Universal Music Group which will see the release of repackaged and remastered versions of their studio albums. The deal covers the world outside North America.

The albums will be released by Island Records (a subsidiary of Universal Music Group), commencing with the Greatest Hits I and Greatest Hits II collections on January 3. The albums have been remastered by Bob Ludwig and will feature refreshed sleeve notes.

Queen 40th anniversary remasters

These will be followed up in March by deluxe versions of the first five studio albums, namely:

  • Queen (1973)
  • Queen II (1974)
  • Sheer Heart Attack (1974)
  • A Night At The Opera (1975)
  • A Day At The Races (1976).

The deal coincides with Queen’s 40th anniversary celebrations. Among the events planned are a Queen exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, London titled “Stormtroopers in Stilettos”, which will open in February; a BBC documentary on the band; and a major movie with Sacha Baron Cohen taking on the role of Freddie Mercury.
