New Elvis exhibit in Washington, DC

A new exhibit in Washington, DC will explore the power of Elvis Presley and the explosive impact he had on music and popular culture. Newseum’s exhibit, “Elvis! His Groundbreaking, Hip-Shaking, Newsmaking Story,” opens March 19th. Elvis Newseum Exhibit, Washington


The Newseum exhibit has been produced in collaboration with Elvis Presley Enterprises and includes rare objects from the Graceland vaults, including:

  • rare photographs and original newspapers and magazines
  • the black shirt and pants worn by Elvis at the start of the 1968 television special
  • the Gretsch “Country Gentleman” guitar Elvis played in 1969 during a four-week engagement in Las Vegas
  • Elvis’ iconic 1957 Harley-Davidson motorcycle
  • the coat and belt Elvis wore during his 1970 White House meeting with President Nixon
  • the “American Eagle” jumpsuit and cape worn during rehearsals for Elvis’ “Aloha From Hawaii” concert in January 1973
  • the gold-and-diamond belt presented to Elvis in 1969 for breaking Las Vegas attendance records.

A video featuring footage of Elvis will be broadcast on the 90-foot-long video wall in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith Big Screen Theater.

The Newseum is a 250,000-square-foot museum that features five centuries of news history with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits. It is located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, N.W., Washington, DC, between the White House and the U.S. Capitol and adjacent to the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall.
