New “My Music” specials covering doo wop and Motown make their debut on PBS tonight.

“My Music: Doo Wop Discoveries”

“My Music: Doo Wop Discoveries” features long unseen archival footage and new live performances from pivotal R&B and pop vocal groups of the late fifties and sixties. Smokey Robinson, Mike Stoller, Aaron Neville, Neil Sedaka, George Clinton and others are also on hand to share their stories about the era. The special is hosted by Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, formerly of Sha Na Na.

Programme highlights include:

  • Smokey Joe’s Cafe – The Robins
  • Devil or Angel – The Clovers
  • A Sunday Kind of Love – The Harptones
  • Why Do Fools Fall in Love – The Teenagers
  • Gloria – The Cadillacs
  • Goody Goody – Frankie Lymon
  • Trouble In Paradise – Johnny Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge
  • Earth Angel – The Penguins
  • Ten Commandments of Love – Harvey & the Moonglows
  • On Broadway – Charlie Thomas’ Drifters
  • Hurt So Bad – Little Anthony & the Imperials
  • I Only Want You – The Passions.

Executive producer of the My Music series, TJ Lubinsky, says:

“I started the preservation of doo wop and classic R&B vocal groups on PBS two decades ago and since then so many great performers have passed on. It’s a thrill to come full circle with this final chapter in our last, all-original doo wop shows, now archived for history. In DOO WOP DISCOVERIES, we get to share the songs we were never able to present before, along with stories from the artists who made the music.”

“My Music: Motown Big Hits & More”

TJ Lubinsky has also put together a show featuring classic Motown performances spanning the years 1959 to 1967, including top artists such as The Four Tops, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, and Martha & The Vandellas

Programme highlights include:

  • Heat Wave – Martha Reeves
  • Nowhere To Run – Martha & The Vandellas
  • It’s The Same Old Song – Four Tops
  • Baby I Need Your Loving – Four Tops
  • Tracks Of My Tears – Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
  • Tears Of A Clown – The Miracles
  • Stop! In The Name Of Love – Diana Ross & The Supremes
  • You Can’t Hurry Love – Diana Ross & The Supremes.

An exclusive six-CD set of original Motown recordings – including first-time stereo mixes, favorite B-sides and album cuts – is being offered to PBS viewers who support this new fund-raising special.
