Mick Hucknall to team up with The Faces

The Faces will reunite for the music and design festival, Vintage, on August 13, but minus Rod Stewart. Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall will take on lead vocal duties instead.

Guitarist Ronnie Wood, drummer Kenney Jones and keyboardist Ian McLagan will also be joined by former Sex Pistol, Glen Matlock, who will play bass in place of Ronnie Lane who died in 1997.

This isn’t the first time The Faces have reunited since their split in 1975. A one off charity gig on October 25, 2009 at the Royal Albert Hall saw them perform with a number of guest vocalists, including Hucknall. Here’s a rousing rendition of “Stay With Me” from that night.

The Vintage festival takes place at the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex from August 13-15 and is a celebration of “British cool” from the 1940s to the 1980s.

The Faces are expected to announce further dates shortly, using other guest vocalists. Mick Hucknall will tour with Simply Red for the final time later in the year, after 25 years with the band.

Ronnie Wood has also been in the news because of rumours that he had been kicked out of the Rolling Stones. His forthcoming work with The Faces, coupled with a reference on the Stones’ website saying “Ronnie Wood: 1976-2010” was enough to get tongues wagging. He has provided reassurances that he is still with the band and the website reference has been changed to “1976 – present.”

The Rolling Stones also dismissed an unfounded rumour that drummer Charlie Watts was quitting the band.
