McCartney at the 100 Club

Paul McCartney to play 100 Club Sir Paul McCartney will play at London’s 100 Club on Friday lunchtime. With a capacity of just 300 seats, this will be McCartney’s smallest gig since he played the Cavern Club in Liverpool in 1999.

This is a real coup for the 100 Club, but could also be a last hurrah as it is under the threat of closure if £500,00 is not raised to save it.

The 100 Club is the oldest live music venue in London. It opened its doors in 1942 as a jazz club and has since hosted concerts by many of the greats of popular music, including The Who, The Rolling Stones and Louis Armstrong.

McCartney says he is looking forward to the intimate gig:

“I’ve played all sorts of different venues over the years and this kind of show presents a different challenge to performing in a stadium.”

“I love performing and I love connecting with audiences, be it in a stadium or arena or in a club. I’m looking forward to being able to interact with fans on a face-to-face basis, not to mention the smell of sweat and beer.”

The 100 Club will be the second iconic venue to host McCartney this week. On Monday night, his VIP, invite-only show at New York’s Apollo Theater was broadcast on Sirius XM to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers. The stars in attendance for the two-hour show included Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Jerry Seinfeld, Tony Bennett, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. While in New York, McCartney also appeared on Saturday Night Live and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

On Saturday Night Live, he played tribute to John Lennon with performances of “A Day in the Life” and “Give Peace a Chance.” It was the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death on December 8.

He also played tribute to Lennon on the Fallon show by singing “Here Today.”

After the 100 Club gig on Friday, McCartney will play London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday (18) and the O2 Academy Liverpool on Sunday (20).
