If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

A selection of Elvis Presley’s recordings have been reconstructed with the help of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the forthcoming album “If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra”.

The album includes some of Elvis’ best known hits, including “Burning Love”, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and “Love Me Tender”, as well as some great lesser known performances, such as “There’s Always Me” and the Neil Diamond-penned “And the Grass Won’t Pay No Mind”. There are also guest appearances from Michael Buble on “Fever”, operatic group Il Vivo on “It’s Now or Never” and guitar legend Duane Eddy on “An American Trilogy” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.

Priscilla Presley says of the album:

This would be a dream come true for Elvis. He would have loved to play with such a prestigious symphony orchestra. The music…the force that you feel with his voice and the orchestra is exactly what he would have done.

For several months, Elvis fans have been hearing about a new album that will feature “Elvis like he has never been heard before”. This is the project that was being referred to. It is the latest attempt by Sony to create a high profile album that will garner media interest and sell to a wider audience than just the diehard fans. There have been mixed results from previous efforts, including the “Christmas Duets” album and the soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil “Viva Elvis” show.

As far as UK sales go, Elvis’ biggest seller for many years was 2013’s “The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs”, which was tied in with a popular ITV television special. No doubt mindful of that, the “If I Can Dream” release will tie in with an ITV documentary titled “Elvis and Me” which sees actress Joanna Lumley interview Priscilla Presley at Abbey Road Studios (where the album was recorded) and then travel to Memphis to visit Graceland and meet with some of Elvis’ friends and associates.

Joanna Lumley says:

I have loved Elvis as a devoted fan since I first heard his fabulous voice when I was ten years old. The opportunity to visit Graceland and spend time finding out more about his fascinating life from Priscilla, and those closest to him, was absolutely thrilling.
