Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew to be honoured

Written by admin on October 17, 2010 – 9:26 am -

Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew are being honoured during the 15th annual American Music Masters series.

“Walking to New Orleans: the Music of Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew” is a co-production of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and Case Western Reserve University. Cleveland. It will take place between November 8 and November 13.

The partnership between Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew lasted from 1949 to 1963 and produced more than fifty songs, including classics such as “Blue Monday,” “I’m Walkin,” “Blueberry Hill,” “Ain’t That a Shame,” and “Walking to New Orleans.” Bartholomew’s arranging and production skills are also heard on tracks by Lloyd Price, Roy Brown, Smiley Lewis and Shirley & Lee.

The six-day celebration will include lectures, interviews, films, educational programmes and, on the final day, a conference at Case Western Reserve University and a tribute concert at the Palace Theater in PlayhouseSquare. The concert will include performances by Dave Bartholomew, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Lloyd Price, Dr. John and The Lower 9-11, Irma Thomas, The Rebirth Brass Band and Robert Parker.

Fats Domino will not be at the event, but he welcomed the tribute:

“I am deeply appreciative and grateful to receive this prestigious honor. It s humbling to be acknowledged among such an elite group of artists.”

Dave Bartholomew said:

“It’s a great feeling and honor to be recognized at this point in my life. I look at it this way, better sooner than later… at the age of 89, almost 90, I look back at my career and I think about the people before us and the people that followed in our footsteps. I think we had a helluva ride and I thank the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for recognizing our catalog and our place in music history.”
