Elvis Presley tops all-time best sellers list

Elvis Presley 1956 Elvis Presley has been named the UK’s biggest selling male singles artist of all time. The Official Charts Company made the announcement as part of their celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart.

Elvis took the number one spot with combined sales of 21.7 million singles, including 2.2 million in the last decade.

The first of Elvis Presley’s many UK hits was “Heartbreak Hotel” which peaked at number two in 1956. He would go on to achieve a record 21 UK number ones, starting with “All Shook Up” in 1957. The biggest seller was “It’s Now Or Never,” which hit the top spot in 1960 and again in 2005.

Thirty-five years after his death, Elvis continues to sell well in the UK, with 317,000 albums and 330,000 track downloads sold in the last 18 months alone.

The UK’s Top Ten best selling male singles artists are:

  1. Elvis Presley – 21.7 million
  2. Cliff Richard – 21.5 million
  3. Michael Jackson – 15.5 million
  4. Elton John – 15.0 million
  5. David Bowie – 10.7 million
  6. Paul McCartney – 10.3 million
  7. Rod Stewart – 9.9 million
  8. Stevie Wonder – 9.1 million
  9. Eminem – 8.9 million
  10. George Michael – 7.9 million.
