Chuck Berry has welcomed the honour:

“I’m happy to be honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. I’m looking forward to reelin’ and rockin’ in Cleveland.”

“Roll Over Beethoven: The Life and Music of Chuck Berry” runs from October 22-27, concluding with the tribute concert at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theater in Cleveland. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will run the celebration in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University.

The American Music Masters series began in 1996. The previous recipients of the honour were Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew, Janis Joplin, Les Paul, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Sam Cooke, Lead Belly, Buddy Holly, Hank Williams, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, Louis Jordan, Robert Johnson, Jimmie Rodgers, and Woody Guthrie.

Chuck Berry was among the artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at its first induction ceremony in 1986.
