The acetate of Elvis Presley’s first recording, “My Happiness,” has sold for $240,000 at an auction held at Graceland in Memphis.

The acetate was the star lot in the auction, which was held to celebrate what would have been Elvis’ 80th birthday.

Graceland hosts Elvis auction

Thousands of fans have been in Memphis over the past week to celebrate Elvis Presley’s life, 37 years after he died at Graceland. One of the highlights of this year’s Elvis Week was the first ever Elvis auction at the Graceland Archive Studio on Thursday.

All items were from third party sellers, including rare artifacts from the collection of Greg Page, founding member of The Wiggles®. The biggest seller was a gemstone, diamond and gold lion mask pendant that was worn often by Elvis, including during his visit with President Nixon at The White House ($67,000). An opal and diamond ring purchased by Elvis for Ginger Alden in 1976 also attracted big money ($31,000).

Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” lyrics sell for $2M

The working draft for the lyrics of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” has sold at auction for more than $2 million, setting a world record for a popular music manuscript.

The lyrics are written in pencil on four sheets of hotel stationery, and Dylan also decorated the sheets with various notes and doodles. The sale price was $2,045,000.

George Harrison guitar sells for $657,000

A 1962 Rickenbacker 425 guitar owned by George Harrison sold for $657,000 (£390,000) at Julien’s Music Icons auction on Saturday.

The guitar was purchased by Harrison in September 1963 at Fenton’s Music store in Mount Vernon, Illinois, while he was on a two-week visit to see his sister, Louise.
