Last week saw the UK release of a fantastic, great value box set of Bruce Springsteen’s first seven albums, spanning the years 1973 to 1984. The set was released in August in the US. “Bruce Springsteen: The Collection -1973-1984” features seven albums on eight discs (two for “The River”). The albums are presented in mini LP cardboard sleeves which are housed in a red storage box.

The set is really for those who admire Bruce Springsteen but have never taken the plunge and looked beyond his greatest hits. This is a very affordable way of adding some of his very best work to your collection, particularly for UK fans where it works out at less than £2 per album.

Those who already have the albums and are patiently awaiting remastered, deluxe editions of each will probably regard this set as superfluous. If you fall into that category, the excellent “The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story” box set released last month is highly recommended, as is the more affordable 2-CD “The Promise.”
