Bruce Springsteen named 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year

Bruce Springsteen will be honoured as the 2013 MusiCares® Person of the Year at a benefit gala on February 8, 2013.

Springsteen has been recognised for both his “extraordinary creative accomplishments” and “significant charitable work.”

MusiCares was established in 1989 by The Recording Academy to provide a safety net for music people who are facing financial, medical or other personal emergencies. The benefit gala dinner and concert is one of the most prestigious events held during Grammy week, which concludes on February 10 with the 55th Annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center, Los Angeles.

Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the MusiCares Foundation® and The Recording Academy®, said:

“Bruce Springsteen is a truly gifted and Renaissance artist of our time, a national treasure, and an exemplary humanitarian. The previous recipients of the MusiCares Person of the Year award were Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, James Taylor, Brian Wilson, Sting, Bono, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Luciano Pavarotti, Phil Collins, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Gloria Estefan, Natalie Cole, Bonnie Raitt and David Crosby.
