The Beatles come to iTunes

Written by admin on November 16, 2010 – 10:27 pm -

The Beatles catalogue is finally available on Apple’s iTunes store after years of stop and start negotiations. In the end, it happened with minimal fanfare and little notice. Apple posted a cryptic message on their website yesterday – “”Tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget” – and the music was available on iTunes today.

Each of The Beatles’ 13 original studio albums are available for download from the Apple store, as well as a box set, Past Masters Vols 1 and 2, and The Beatles Red and Blue greatest hits albums. Click on one of the text links or album covers for further information on each album.

Each album comes with iTunes LP, featuring lyrics, photos and more.

The “Beatles Box Set” includes The Beatles’ entire catalogue, plus mini-documentary features on each album, and the band’s first performance in the US at the Washington Coliseum in 1964.

The Washington Coliseum show is also being streamed for free on the Beatles page in iTunes until the end of the year.

One of the best things about the Beatles’ catalogue finally making it onto iTunes is that we won’t have to put up with any more tedious stories about when this will happen. Ringo Starr echoed that sentiment in his statement about the move today:

“I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when Beatles are coming to iTunes. At last, if you want it, you can get it.”

But who will want it? You might think that anyone who really wanted the Beatles on their iPod would have ripped the songs from their CDs by now. Evidently not, as first day sales have reportedly been excellent, with the band’s penultimate album, “Abbey Road”, leading the way, followed by “The White Album” and “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
