Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will receive ASCAP’s annual Founders Award at the Pop Music Awards in April.

The Founders Award is presented to those who “have made exceptional contributions to music, inspiring and influencing their fellow creators.”

The songwriting team of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and won numerous awards, including four Grammys, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards and 12 MTV Video Music Awards. Aerosmith were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

ASCAP chairman, Paul Williams, said:

“As part of one of our nation’s greatest and most iconic rock bands, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry crafted the music that defined a generation and continues to inspire songwriters today. They are true musical pioneers whose contributions to American songwriting are immeasurable.”

Tyler and Perry have both welcomed the news:

“It is humbling for Joe and me to be honored for our music alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell. It’s been a lifelong love affair, and it’s far from over.” – Steven Tyler

“We join an incredible list of honorees,” he said, “and we are grateful to ASCAP for their support throughout our career.” – Joe Perry

The Pop Music Awards will be held at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles on April 17.

Perry and Tyler will also be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year, along with Mick Jones & Lou Gramm of Foreigner, JD Souther, Holly Knight and Tony Hatch. The induction event is scheduled for June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
