Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson to enter Apollo Hall of Fame

Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson will be inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame at the Apollo Theater’s Annual Spring Benefit on June 14.

Past inductees into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame include Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Little Richard, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Spring Benefit will be hosted by movie star Jamie Foxx. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony will receive the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award.

Michael Jackson’s association with the Apollo goes right back to 1967 when he won the theater’s Amateur Night as part of the Jackson 5. When Jackson died, thousands lined up at the Apollo Theater to pay tribute to him
