$100m for Warhol’s Elvis print
Written by admin on December 1, 2009 – 2:57 am -The Economist has reported that Andy Warhol’s ‘Eight Elvises’ screen print has sold for a staggering $100 million.
The enormous fee was paid last year in a private transaction and is a figure only matched previously for work by Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt and Willem De Kooning.

‘Eight Elvises’ dates from 1963 and had been in the home of Roman collector, Annibale Berlingieri, until the sale last autumn, which was brokered by the French art consultant. Philippe Ségalot.
One of the reasons for the $100 million price tag is that, while Warhol’s other screen prints were run off on sometimes hundreds of editions, ‘Eight Elvises’ is unique.
